I thought it was about time to put on an actual pastel polish for today’s NOTD.  OPI Rumple’s Wiggin’ (Shrek Forever After) is a pastel lavender creme:

Picture taken in natural light.  This applied well for the type of color and finish; I used three coats.  It’s not very whited-out and not as stark as a typical pastel but it still stands out on the nail.  The color is light and delicate but not washed-out. The oafish-sounding name seems like a mismatch for such a soft, springy color; then again, it does come from a Shrek-themed collection.  I paired this with Barielle Polished Princess on my toes.

Mmm, I really love these scented polishes; no wonder I’ve tried three of them in the span of about a week.  Revlon Gum Drop (Scents of Summer, Summer 2010) is a pale lavender creme:

Picture taken in natural light.  This applied fairly well; the formula was not very pigmented so I needed three thickish coats for even opacity.  This is a very cool-toned, more blue-based lavender.  It’s quite pale, but lacks the truly pigmented, whited-out pastel quality.  It’s stark enough, however, to have a nice presence on the nails.  The color looks very light and airy.  I’m not sure if gumdrops have a distinct smell, but the scent of this polish is vaguely sugary sweet.  I paired this with Revlon Peach Petal on my toes.

Keeping up with this sort-of pastel theme, I’m wearing Orly Lollipop (Sweet, Spring 2010), a pastel baby lilac creme:

Picture taken in natural light.  This was quite pigmented and the formula had a nice flow, so I only needed two coats for full opacity and evenness.  This shade of lilac has a pinkish tone, and is on the warm side.  It’s a nice change of pace from similar cooler-toned shades.  I wouldn’t call it the starkest of my lilacs/lavenders, but it’s definitely enough to have that nice, whited-out, true pastel look.  It’s a very sweet-looking, cute color.  I paired this with Urban Outfitters Green 2 on my toes.

The Illamasqua pastels came out last year, when the pastel nail trend was in full force.  But by the time I was able to buy these at Sephora, I was pasteled-out, so I set them aside to try much later.  Since their names are cute and romantic, I thought they would be a perfect fit for my theme this month.  Illamasqua Wink (Pastel Nail Varnishes, Spring 2010) is a pastel lavender creme:

Picture taken in sunlight.  This applied quite well, especially for a pastel, in three coats.  This is one of those stark pastels, which I love, but I also like that it’s very clearly lavender.  It’s not too whited-out or grey-tinged as some pastel lavenders can be.  It just looks so perfectly light and airy!  It makes me think of…meringues, or cupcake frosting, or some other delicate dessert. 🙂  I paired this with OPI The “It” Color on my toes.

For the fall, I’ve worn lots of vibrant, deep jewel tones, some rich, warm earth tones, and now I’m wearing something else perfect for the season: a smoky, greyed color like American Apparel Dynasty, a dusty lilac creme:

Picture taken in sunlight.  This applied fine in two coats.  I can think of quite a few polishes in the same vein so this isn’t so unique or fresh anymore, but I still like it (otherwise I wouldn’t have as many of these greyed lilacs/lavenders in my collection.)  I really like the dusty vibe. 🙂  I paired this with Color Club High Society on my toes.

Keeping with my flower theme, today I’m wearing Sephora by OPI Iris I Was Thinner (Modern Flowers, Spring 2010), a bright, deep lavender creme:

Picture taken in sunlight.  (As expected of a purple, it’s photographing more blue than it is in real life.)  This applied well, but the formula was a little thin and not very pigmented, so I needed to use three coats.  I wasn’t sure how to describe this color!  It’s sort of in between the soft, pale lavenders and the more vivid, color- saturated purples.  Either way, it’s a delicate and pretty color, and it really does remind me of flowers.  I paired this with Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud (Complete Salon Manicure) on my toes.

I took this outside the Catacombs of St. Domitilla in Rome, Italy (I thought the catacombs were awesome!  Then again, I didn’t mind the cool, dark, tight spaces :)):

I’ve been doing mostly cremes this month, so I figured I’d throw in a glitter.  China Glaze Electric Lilac (Specialty Polishes) is a semi-sheer periwinkle-lavender base packed with square multicolored and hexagonal holographic glitter.  I put it over OPI Done Out in Deco, a lavender creme:

Picture taken in sunlight.  (Please click to view full size, it doesn’t look so blurry.) I did two coats of each polish.  I waited a couple of minutes in between coats of glitter to avoid cuticle drag.  I used one coat of Poshe, and it’s still a bit rough.  This holographic glitter is so pretty!  And, um, glittery!  I like seeing the rainbow of colors on my nails.  I paired this with Orly Prim & Proper (mattified) on my toes.

I’ve worn lavender (or lilac, whatever) several times this month, and again today.  None of them have been dupes for each other, though!  China Glaze Light As Air (Up & Away, Spring 2010) is a very pale, pastel lavender creme:

Picture taken in natural light (absolutely no sun today!).  It has the same thick but runny formula as the other pastels I’ve tried from this collection; now I’m very used to working with it.  I only needed two coats for complete coverage (and of course, self-leveling topcoat really helps get it even).  I’ve tried a similar-looking color recently, Essie Lilacism, but this is more on the warm side.  And the overall look is more stark and whited-out.  I think the name totally fits the color; it looks very airy indeed!  I paired this with Maybelline Goody Plum Drop (Express Finish) on my toes.

I’m wearing another purple today, but not pastel!  It’s just something I wanted to retry.  OPI Parlez-Vous OPI? (La Collection de France, Fall 2008) is a greyed, dark lilac creme:

Picture taken in sunlight.  This applied well in two coats (a welcome change after dealing with pastel formulas for a while).  I just love this type of color!  Purple looks good dusty, greyed-out, and moody.  I paired this with Barielle Putt-e On Me on my toes.

I’m wearing another pastel today, albeit from a different collection.  Essie Lilacism (Art of Spring, Spring 2010) is a pale, pastel lavender creme:

Picture taken in sunlight.  The formula was a bit streaky and on the thin side so I needed three coats to get it opaque and even.  But the application wasn’t too bad overall.  The shade is definitely more cool-toned.  It reminds me of lavender soaps and candles.  I paired this with Sephora by OPI IM Beauty on my toes.
