Forever Wild

Continuing with the vampy thread, I have on Sephora by OPI Forever Wild (Betsey Johnson Collection), a deep grape-wine jelly:

Picture taken in natural light (I hate rainy weather lighting!) As vampy jellies can be, the formula was not solidly pigmented. I ultimately needed three coats for opacity, but it applied well. This pretty much looks like your standard vampy wine color. Although the photo makes it look reddish, with the first coat you can see that it’s really purple-based.  For how dark it is at three coats, it doesn’t have that almost-black appearance; it still looks deep wine-purple. It may not be unique, but that doesn’t take away from its classic, sultry look. I paired this with Sally Hansen Night Lily (Salon) on my toes.

Sparkling Personality

After a whole row of cremes I definitely wanted something glittery. This one surprised me in a very good way. Sephora by OPI Sparkling Personality (Betsey Johnson Collection) is a silver glitter peppered with fuchsia glitter:

The glitter is relatively fine for a glitterbomb, so the formula actually went on really smoothly. I was expecting to do three coats like usual but I was able to get away with just two, since the glitter is dense. I was both surprised and glad for that since I avoided having to do a really thick mani. Even though I don’t usually wear polishes for more than three days, I can imagine this would hold up well since it’s a relatively thin glitter mani. With a single coat of Poshe the surface doesn’t turn out completely glassy smooth, but far from rough or bumpy. This is predominantly silver and the fuchsia is just barely sprinkled in there, but even in such a small amount it really pops. It does wonders to break up what would be a plain silver finish. I may have been imagining things as I applied this but I thought I saw a little bit of turquoise glitter in there too. Despite the polish being all-glitter, the sparkle factor is delicate; it looks amazing in the sun. I paired this with Sephora by OPI Just a Little Dangerous on my toes.

Pushing Your Luck

I know I just wore a red creme a couple of manis ago, but I’m hoping the color will bring me some luck. Sephora by OPI Pushing Your Luck (Betsey Johnson Collection) is a bright cherry red creme:

Picture taken in natural light. The formula was more on the side of slighly transluscent creme than solid, creamy creme so I needed three coats for full coverage. I wasn’t planning on getting this at first, seeing as I have so many red cremes already, but I picked it up and never put it back. Red cremes just call to me, especially bright, pin-up ones like this! Plus all the polishes look so appealing in the revamped nail station Sephora has. (Speaking of their nail station, I like it but I just wish they would keep something to swatch the polishes on nearby. I always have a mani on so I test the polishes on perfume sticks.) I’m no gambler but the color and the name have got me thinking of Vegas. I paired this with OPI Ogre-the-Top Blue on my toes.

Alley Cat

I thought it was time to try another pink, and I wanted to take advantage of having sunlight for photographs by wearing something with a hint of sparkle. Sephora by OPI Alley Cat (Betsey Johnson Collection) is a fucshia with subtle pink shimmer:

Picture taken in sunlight. This applied smoothly; it was pretty pigmented but I still felt like I needed three coats for solid coverage. From a distance or in the shade this looks like a creme, but the light brings out the very subtle shimmer. It photographed, so it’s not so subtle that it’s practically undetectable, but it’s still very faint. It’s probably not so obvious because the base is pigmented and practically like a creme. Even with its barely-there apperance, I like the addition of the shimmer, to give a twist on your typical fuchsia. The color itself is a prime example of fuchsia; it’s a great blend of pink and purple and can lean either way depending on the lighting. I paired this with OPI Funky Dunkey on my toes.

It’s My Pink

Even though I have lots of pink cremes (and have tried one already this month), I had to get this one for its scented quality. Sephora by OPI It’s My Pink (Betsey Johnson Collection) is a hot pink creme:

Picture taken in natural light. This applied well, but lacked that really solid pigmentation, so I needed three coats for an even finish. Although not unique, this is still a nice shade of hot pink, and it is one of the colors I tend to associate with Betsey Johnson. As I’ve said before, I’m a sucker for scented polishes. I wish the whole collection was scented! I can imagine the scents that would have gone with the other colors. As far as the scent goes, it’s pretty strong, but as I’m only on my first day of wear I don’t know how long it lasts. You can still smell it through topcoat, and it really does smell like perfume. I’ve actually smelled the Too Too perfume and I don’t really like it (I wouldn’t buy a whole bottle of it), but it’s perfectly fine for a scented polish. I paired this with China Glaze For Audrey on my toes.

Bright as a Feather

Amidst this week of gloomy weather there was a spot of sunlight so I took that chance to put on something glittery. Sephora by OPI Bright as a Feather (Bohemian Brights, Spring 2012) is a bright sky blue with silver and turquoise microglitter:

It’s understandable, though, ’cause the formula has to be a little sheer to allow the microglitter to shine through. Three coats does give a nice, solid opacity. The color is perfectly bright and saturated, and I can’t resist anything sparkly and pretty. I love it, it’s like looking into a glimmering swimming pool. I paired this with Orly Heat Wave on my toes.

Cartwheels on the Catwalk

I’m still keeping up with my light, springy colors for this month, and for today I wanted to wear something (somewhat) blue in anticipation of the Yankees’ home opener tomorrow. Even though they went 0-3 to start the season, now they’re 3-3, coming off of back to-back extra-innings wins! Sephora by OPI Cartwheels on the Catwalk (Betsey Johnson Collection) is a light turquoise-baby blue creme:

Picture taken in sunlight. The formula was nicely thick and pigmented; I used two coats plus minor touchups for full, even coverage. (And I don’t know when this happened as I haven’t tried a new $OPI in a while but I’m liking this ProWide-style brush.) This shade is actually pretty hard to describe! Sometimes when I look at it, it looks more turquoise, and at other times more baby blue. In the end I think there’s too much turquoise in it to be considered a true blue. Whatever color it is, it’s insanely sweet and pretty; I just adore shades like this! It’s light, but not pastel-stark. It actually seems slightly dusty to me, yet it still looks fresh and springy. I paired this with MAC Coconut Ice on my toes.

Caught With My Khakis Down

I started this month with a khaki green, so I thought it would be nice to end it with a similar color.  Sephora by OPI Caught With My Khakis Down (Safari Chic, Summer 2011) is a khaki army green creme:

Picture taken in natural light.  This applied well in two coats.  This is a nice, medium shade of khaki green, with a little bit of a murky quality.  Even though American Apparel Army Jacket is a different polish, this one looks like it belongs in that camouflage color palette, too.  I also love the name; it’s long but still funny (and thankfully, not a pun!)  I paired this with Sally Hansen Commander in Chic (Complete Salon Manicure) on my toes.

Shiny Dancer

For a little variety, I decided to put on a grey instead of a blue in anticipation of tonight’s deciding game.  Sephora by OPI Shiny Dancer (Urban Ballerina, Spring 2011) is a silvery gunmetal foily metallic microglitter:

Picture taken in sunlight.  This applied fine; the formula was a little sheer and cuticle-draggy.  I needed three coats for full coverage.  It’s not obvious when you look at it, but as you can see from the photo, this isn’t just a silver/gunmetal; there’s also some blue microglitter in there.  It gives the shade an overall cool blue tone.  It’s a lovely color that lies right between a true dark grey gunmetal and a brilliant silver.  This is so sparkly and pretty!  I could tell by the sheerness of the formula that it could be loaded with microglitter, and thankfully it leans more on the foily side than the brushstroke-y metallic side.  I love how it’s named (or should I say punned) after an Elton John song.  I paired this with Barielle Blackened Bleu on my toes.

Miss Bossy Pants

This is the last of the full-sized Glee polishes I had set to try this month.  I love Glee, but even without the collection’s theme, I still would’ve liked all seven of them.  Sephora by OPI Miss Bossy Pants (Glee Collection) is a hot fuchsia shimmer:

Picture taken in sunlight.  This applied well in two coats.  The shimmer is quite fine, but the delicate sparkle is definitely noticeable.  I just love how girly yet bold the color is!  It’s not that unique of a polish, but the whole effect is really pretty anyway.  I paired this with Maybelline Timely Turquoise on my toes.
